"See it"
Enjoy print and advertising on exhibit. Paul Gehl, Newberry Library Custodian, John M. Wing Foundation on the History of Printing, will take us on group tours to view the contribution of print and advertising through the years. The Newberry began to collect in earnest on the history of printing and allied fields of the book arts in the years just after World War I, under terms of a bequest by Chicago journalist and publisher John Mansir Wing (1844-1917), who envisioned "a great typographical library." The initial impulse of the collection was to represent as many different printers and type faces as possible from the early period of printing through to present-day.

As well as view "The Chicago Calligraphy Collective's 18th Annual Juried Show in the Libraries' Herman Dunlap Smith Gallery". The Chicago Calligraphy Collective was founded in 1976 to promote the study, practice, and appreciation of calligraphy in all its historical and present-day applications. The juried exhibit of members' work includes handmade artist's books and broadsides as well as three-dimensional works executed in various media and styles, from classical to contemporary.
